Lafayette Cemetery

The City’s historic cemetery on West Baseline Road, dating to the late 1800s, open daily 7 am to sunset. It no longer sells plots and has barred casket burials since November 2025; a plaque to nearly 200 unmarked graves is dedicated on November 6.

The Lafayette Cemetery, at 111 West Baseline Road, is open daily for visitation from 7 am to sunset. It dates to the late 1800s (the Lafayette Historical Society gives 1891), no longer sells plots, and since November 2025 has allowed no full casket interments under its Rule 3.2; cremains burials continue. Resolution 2026-18, approved by City Council on July 21, 2026, gives plot holders a choice of selling a plot back to the City for $3,500, keeping it for a cremains burial the City pays for, exchanging it for a plot at Coal Creek Cemetery with a $2,000 refund, or holding it for a casket burial under a limited exception; agreements are due by January 31, 2027. The north side was the potter’s field, and the society’s research has named nearly 200 people buried there without a marker; the City dedicates their plaque on November 6. The Clerk’s Office handles burials at 303-604-4386; the plot-holder help line is 303-604-3511.
